This past fall, Live For Live Music put on the third annual Brooklyn Comes Alive music festival in New York City. The two-day event featured over 100 different artists performing at three separate venues in and around the Williamsburg neighborhood of Brooklyn. Among the 35 different sets of music was a solo piano performance from Umphrey’s McGee keyboardist Joel Cummins.
Cummins delivered an hour-long set that kicked off day two of the event at Brooklyn Bowl. Pro-shot video of a portion of his set was posted to YouTube by the Brooklyn Comes Alive organizers. The 11-minute video features Cummins offering up a cover of The Allman Brothers Band instrumental classic “Jessica,” which also found him working in a rendition of Umphrey’s McGee’s “Orfeo,” a tune he composed for their 1998 release Greatest Hits Vol. III.
Umphrey’s McGee busted out the Allman’s song this past weekend, performing it for the first time in over a year and just their third take on it since 2014.
