Pink Talking Fish will ring in 2020 with a New Year’s Eve concert at Paradise Rock Club in Boston on December 31. The New Motif will open. On Saturday, the Phish/Pink Floyd/Talking Heads tribute act played a guest-filled late-night concert at the House Of Blues in Boston after Phish finished a two-night run across the street at Fenway Park.
The band kicked off Saturday’s show with a seamless run incorporating Frank Zappa’s “Peaches En Regalia,” Talking Heads’ “Psycho Killer,” Pink Floyd’s “Shine On You Crazy Diamond” and both “Ha Ha Ha” and “Llama” by Phish. Saxophonist Lee Ross added to “Shine On,” while “Llama” featured percussionist Brendan Tommaney and went from the slow version to the fast version. Tommaney stuck around for “Life During Wartime” and vocalist Kit Holliday led the group on “Great Gig In The Sky.”

PTF’s late-night continued with the pairing of “Piper” and “This Must Be The Place (Naive Melody).” Guitarist Lyle Brewer emerged to augment the band on “Wish You Were Here,” “Brother” and “Skin It Back.” The latter also featured Ross and Cory Schectman on sax. All of the evening’s guests contributed to the “Burning Down The House” that closed the set. A cover of the Beastie Boys’ “Sabotage” served as encore.
Tickets for New Year’s Eve go on sale this Friday, July 12.
