Foo Fighters began a weeklong residency on Jimmy Kimmel Live with an appearance on Monday’s episode of the late-night talk show. Frontman Dave Grohl spoke with host Jimmy Kimmel and led his bandmates through a performance of “Window.”
“Window” is a track from Your Favorite Toy, the band’s 12th album and the first to feature drummer Ilan Rubin. Foo Fighters gave the song its live debut at Irving Plaza in New York City on April 30, then performed it on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert on May 4.
Foo Fighters are listed as the Jimmy Kimmel Live musical guests Monday through Thursday this week. Friday’s guests remain unannounced.

During the interview, Grohl told Kimmel the song began as a simple bass line he wrote for his 17-year-old daughter Harper Grohl, who was learning the instrument and wanted to jam together. Grohl explained where the lyrics came from, telling Kimmel:
“I don’t know if you’ve ever been in a hotel room where you’re lying there in your skivvies and the curtains are open, and all of a sudden here comes the window cleaner guy, and you’re splayed out with a cheeseburger in your lap watching the news. And then some guy comes by really quick, and I started thinking, ‘Oh my god, this guy is witnessing people’s most intimate moments.’ So that’s basically what the song is about.”
Kimmel noted that Foo Fighters will headline KROQ Almost Acoustic Christmas on December 12 at the Kia Forum in Inglewood, California. The host, who said he worked at the Los Angeles radio station in 1995, showed the lineup from the first edition the band played that year. Grohl recalled meeting former Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins backstage at that show, when Hawkins was playing with Alanis Morissette. Hawkins, who died in 2022 at age 50, went on to become the band’s longtime drummer.
Elsewhere in the interview, Grohl said he smoked about 3,000 pounds of pork for a Hope United charity event two days earlier. He said Vin Diesel won a charity bid to have him cook at his home. Grohl also said he knew his daughter Violet Grohl was a musician when she was 4 years old, and that he had no involvement in her own album, which was released in May.

Grohl said the band will perform Gerry Rafferty’s “Baker Street” later in the week, calling it one of his favorite songs. Foo Fighters brought the cover back at a recent benefit show in Los Angeles.
