Pink Floyd released a new teaser from their restored 1972 concert film, Pink Floyd at Pompeii – MCMLXXII, scheduled to premiere in theaters and IMAX on April 24. The latest clip finds the band starting work on what would become their The Dark Side Of The Moon album at London’s Abbey Road Studios.

The landmark film documents the band’s groundbreaking October 1971 performance at the ancient Roman amphitheater in Pompeii, Italy — the first-ever live concert held at this historic venue. Beyond the concert footage, the film features intimate studio scenes capturing the band during the recording sessions for their seminal 1973 LP captured shortly after the Pompeii show.

The newly shared clip shows bassist Roger Waters experimenting with synthesizers, while both Waters and guitarist David Gilmour discuss their musical equipment and creative process. In the footage, Gilmour reflects on musical technology, noting that regardless of the equipment, the music ultimately originates from the musicians themselves. “The equipment isn’t actually thinking of what to do any of the time. It couldn’t control itself,” explained Gilmour.

“It would be interesting to see exactly what four people could do if just given the equipment, who didn’t know anything about it really and just tell them to get on with it and do something,” added Gilmour. “It’d be an interesting experiment. I think we’d come off better,” the guitarist said with grin.

Following the theatrical release, Pink Floyd will issue Pink Floyd at Pompeii – MCMLXXII as a live album on May 2, marking the first complete live recording from this historic concert. Fans can choose from multiple formats including CD, LP, Blu-Ray, DVD, digital audio and Dolby Atmos.
