Phish Honors Genesis At 2010 Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame Induction Ceremony
Phish guitarist Trey Anastasio gave the speech inducting Genesis into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame on March 15, 2010 and the quartet honored Genesis with performances of “Watcher Of The Skies” and “No Reply At All.” Organizers of the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame continue to upload video from past induction ceremonies onto YouTube and the latest batch includes Phish’s Genesis covers and Anastasio’s speech.
“Every musicial rule and boundary was questioned and broken,” Trey said in inducting Genesis into the Rock Hall. “It’s impossible to overstate what a huge impact this band and philosophy had on me as a young musician and I’m forever in their debt.” Peter Gabriel wasn’t on hand at the The Waldorf-Astoria in New York City to receive the honor. However, Anastasio and Phish did invite Gabriel to join them for a performance of Genesis’ The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway album for their 2013 Halloween show, an invitation that was turned down.
Phish’s covers of “Watcher Of The Skies” and “No Reply At All” at the 2010 Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame induction ceremony still stand as their only versions of the tunes. Genesis originally released “Watcher Of The Skies” on 1972’s Foxtrot and issued “No Reply At All” on 1981’s Abacab. Phish was joined by a horn section for their performance of the latter tune.
