Gotts Street Park: Volume One

I hope you enjoyed last week’s set of burners, I’ve got a few more to funk up your thing for the next go-around. I’ll start back over in the United Kingdom, with Gotts Street Park, a Leeds-based collective of producers and instrumentalists who have just put out their first EP, tantalizingly titled Volume One. The record is a quick set of appetizing grooves merging ideas from jazz, hip-hop and rock with veteran skill. Three tracks feature guest vocals, which gives the group a lot to flex their woozy funk around. This is good stuff, with hopefully more soon to follow.

Nomade Orquestra: Entremundos

My next rec involves a trip to Brazil – São Paulo to be precise. The band is Nomade Orquestra, a 10-piece ensemble with a big sound, horns and guitars and rhythms galore. Their second release is Entremundos – between worlds – and it is truly a worldly romp, fusing traditional African, Latin and Western styles together in sometimes whiplash fashion. The record offers up some really interesting blends and, most importantly, as far flung as it gets, it remains pretty darn funky throughout. Enjoy!

Art Feynman: Blast Off Through The Wicker

Sometimes you find the groove in more unexpected places. Blast Off Through the Wicker, the new album from Art Feynman, isn’t a funk record to say the least, but its existential, psychedelic pop bristles and pulses and occasionally explodes with irresistible rhythms just the same. On the whole, this is a stunner, to say the least, an artistic array of beats and intricate melodies, hard to pin down yet utterly addictive. One of 2017’s great under-the-radar gems, Blast Off Through the Wicker is a must hear for any music fan.
