Neil Young Surprise Releases Free Concert Film From 2025 Tour

Neil Young unveiled a concert film dubbed Corduroy Plants with little fanfare on his Neil Young Archives website. The hour-long flick documenting Young’s 2025 Love Earth Tour with The Chrome Hearts can currently be viewed on the platform and YouTube for free.

Corduroy Plants arrives one month after As Time Explodes, a 13-track live album drawn from the same tour. The film features the same songs as the LP outside of “After The Gold Rush” and “Looking Forward,” which were both omitted from Corduroy Plants.

Neil Young tapped his wife, Daryl Hannah, to direct Corduroy Plants. Hannah, who also helmed Young’s 2025 documentary Coastal, leans well beyond straight concert footage here, layering performances from the Love Earth Tour with a steady stream of real-world imagery that taps into the artist’s familiar lyrical throughlines. Visual pairings sharpen that intent, with “Vampire Blues” set against scenes of environmental damage, “Like A Hurricane” matched with agricultural labor and “Cortez The Killer” framed by war imagery spanning World War II to present-day conflicts.

Young’s latest band, The Chrome Hearts, first took the stage with the legendary musician at Farm Aid 2024. The ensemble features guitarist Micah Nelson, bassist Corey McCormick, drummer Anthony LoGerfo and acclaimed keyboardist Spooner Oldham.

While Neil Young & The Chrome Hearts booked a European tour for 2026, the run was canceled in February. Young cited a need to “take a break” in a message announcing the tour’s cancellation.

Neil Young & The Chrome Hearts are scheduled to take the stage at Farm Aid 2026 on September 26 at Veterans United Home Loans Amphitheater in Virginia Beach. A new album Young recorded with the band, Second Song, has been finished. A release date has not yet been revealed.
