Neil Young & The Chrome Hearts announced they will release a new live album entitled As Time Explodes on May 29 via Warner/Reprise Records. Young also shared details of a new studio album he recorded with the band.

The 13-track As Time Explodes, which was originally issued on vinyl as a Record Store Day exclusive, documents Neil Young & The Chrome Hearts’ The Love Earth Tour 2025. Young and his band — guitarist Micah Nelson, bassist Corey McCormick, drummer Anthony LoGerfo and acclaimed keyboardist Spooner Oldham — drew songs from Neil’s entire catalog for incideniary concerts across Europe, the U.S. and Canada last year.

The ensemble quickly forged a chemistry and knack for improvisation displayed on such songs as “Like A Hurricane,” “Vampire Blues” and “Cortez The Killer.” As Time Explodes also includes live performances of some of Young’s most beloved tunes including “Harvest Moon,” “Ohio” and “After The Gold Rush.” A take on the newest Neil Young song, the politically-charged “Big Crime,” is also featured on As Time Explodes.

Produced by Lou Adler with The Volume Dealers (Neil Young and Niko Bolas), As Time Explodes will be released on black vinyl, CD and digitally. Stream “Silver Eagle” below to preview the live album:

Neil Young took to his Neil Young Archives website earlier this week to share two missives about his next studio album. Young said the follow-up to 2025’s Talkin To The Trees was untitled in one post and referred to the forthcoming LP as Second Song in the other. The rock icon noted the set has been completely mastered and ready to go.

Neil Young & Chrome Hearts recorded the album at Rick Rubin’s Shangri-La studio in Malibu, California. They had five new songs prepared and had cut them all by the second day of the sessions. Young dug into his vault for songs he wrote 63 years ago to round out the record.

“We were then out of songs,” Young explained. “We needed more. The next morning I had a song going through my head and I was playing it. I checked it out in the archives and found it was from 1963, unreleased. There were more. I found three others with it … also unreleased! Three 60 year old songs and five brand new ones!”

“We finished mixing and assembling one month later on the next full moon … April 1,” he continued. “It was fast! We now have a complete mastered record, ready to go. I cannot wait for you to hear it and I hope it gives you what it gives me.” The sessions were the first time he recorded digital and analog masters at the same time.

Stay tuned for more details on Neil Young & The Chrome Hearts’ next studio album. Young was originally scheduled embark on a 2026 European Tour in June and July. The tour was canceled in February.
