My Morning Jacket hit the stage in their hometown on Sunday, performing a set in Louisville at the 2024 Bourbon & Beyond festival. The band covered Neil Young’s “Harvest Moon” with the help of Lucius vocalists Jess Wolfe and Holly Laessig.
My Morning Jacket’s festival setlist sampled from across the band’s extensive catalog, loading up on favorites like “One Big Holiday,” “Off the Record” and “Mahgeetah.” Interspersed among those well-worn originals was the band’s new single, “Aren’t We One?,” which was released last week.

Sunday’s Bourbon & Beyond lineup also included Lucius, who have previously shared the stage with MMJ. Also on Sunday’s slate of performers was fellow Kentucky native Tyler Childers. Deep into their set, My Morning Jacket frontman Jim James introduced Wolfe and Laessig, who emerged along with fiddler Jesse Wells and drummer Rodney Elkins of Childers’ band The Food Stamps.
The guests and MMJ delivered a collaborative rendition of Young’s “Harvest Moon” with Wolfe and Laessig singing the backing vocal part original sung by Linda Ronstadt. The 1992 studio recording of “Harvest Moon” credited bassist Tim Drummond with playing a “broom” on the track, which was replicated by Elkins onstage with My Morning Jacket.
“Harvest Moon” was covered by MMJ earlier this year during a no-repeats run at The Fillmore in San Francisco. The band was joined by Neil Young when they played the song at his Bridge School Benefit concerts in 2013.
