My Morning Jacket held the third show of their four-night no-repeats run at The Fillmore in San Francisco on Thursday night. Frontman Jim James led a rare performance of the At Dawn deep cut, “If It Smashes Down,” marking its first setlist appearance since 2018.
Thursday’s “If It Smashes Down” offering was notable for it being just the third time My Morning Jacket has played the song publicly. The only other instances occurred on March 2, 2018, and on October 19, 2010, both of which were part of complete performances of the 2001 album, At Dawn. James’ high end of his vocal range was showcased at the end of last night’s take on the rarity.

The no-repeats restriction likely led to another rarity, “By My Car,” from the band’s 1999 debut album The Tennessee Fire, making its first setlist since 2019. The second song of the encore was the evening’s lone cover, Elton John’s “Rocket Man,” which had gone more than one year since its last play.
My Morning Jacket’s Fillmore run wraps tonight in San Francisco. Watch video of Thursday’s concert captured by Dakota Herrick below (“If It Smashes Down” starts around the 30:00 mark):
