The Mother Hips Announce 2016 Hips High Camp Lineup & Share New Single

The Mother Hips will host the second annual Hips High Camp at the Sierra Valley Lodge in Calpine, California on July 15 and 16. The band has revealed the acts supporting them at the two-day mini-festival and shared a new song from their forthcoming studio album.

On Friday, July 15 The Mother Hips with Jason Crosby on keyboards will headline a day of music that includes Midnight North and Leslie Stevens & The Badgers. The Hips will play a special afternoon full-band acoustic set on Saturday, July 15 capping off the slate of daytime performances that will include sets by Thomas Heyman and The Easy Leaves. The evening program on day two starts off with support from Cool Ghouls, Sam Outlaw and Kelley Stoltz, along with The Mother Hips’ headlining set.

In other The Mother Hips news, the band has formally shared “I Went In Hard,” there first new song to be issued since their 2013 LP Behind Beyond. The new track is also the first song to take on the paragliding accident that severely injured The Hips’ guitarist Tim Bluhm.

“I wrote the music but didn’t have a set of lyrics that I was really feeling so I asked Tim to give it a shot,” Hips guitarist Greg Loiacono explained. “He had lyrics that he’d been working on that were about his crash. He sang the new words and changed the melody and it turned out nicely.”

The Mother Hips’ upcoming new album is slated for release this year and will be their first to feature longtime touring bassist and former Frank Zappa band musical director Scott Thunes. Stream “I Went In Hard” below:

Along with Hips High Camp, the band will appear at a number of concerts in the coming months, including two nights in Denver at Larimer Lounge in July and a West Coast run supporting Hard Working Americans in August. In September they’ll appear at Bear Music Fest in Pinecrest, California and host a two-night stand at Joe’s Pub in New York City.
