By Scott Bernstein Mar 19, 2016 • 9:45 am PDT
Just one night after covering Neil Young’s “Down By The River” for the first time in nearly 14 years, moe. treated New York City fans to another crazy bust out last night at New York City’s PlayStation Theater. The band led off their encore on the second of three nights in NYC with their first take on Steely Dan’s “Bodhisattva” since 2003.
moe.’s first of two nights at the PlayStation Theater started off with a “Yodelittle” > “Blue Jeans Pizza” sequence. Next up was “Puebla” > “Bullet” ahead of “Calyphornya.” The set concluded with “Gone” and “Queen Of Everything.” Percussionist Jim Loughlin stepped into the spotlight to lead his mates through a cover of “Cosmik Debris” by Frank Zappa to begin the second set. moe. showed off their jamming chops on a “Silver Sun” > “Kyle’s Song” > “Opium” segment that served as the improvisational meat of the evening. After “She,” moe. dusted off guitarist Chuck Garvey’s “Suck A Lemon” for the first time since November 7, 2014.
“Bodhisattva” and “Mexico” served as the encore for moe. on Friday night. The band first debuted the Steely Dan classic on New Year’s Eve 2000-2001 in Atlantic City and it remained in the moe. repertoire through 2003 when it suddenly disappeared…until last night. moe. concludes their visit to New York City tonight at the PlayStation Theater.
