The NHL’s Minnesota Wild will now honor late great Minnesota native Prince at home games during the upcoming hockey season. One of The Purple One’s classic anthems will now be played each time a Wild player scores a goal at Xcel Energy Center in Minneapolis.

The team revealed plans to play Prince’s “Let’s Go Crazy” over the arena’s PA after a Wild player scores a goal. The decision to implement the new song came in response to a survey conducted of season ticket holders after “Let’s Go Crazy” was played by the team during a Stanley Cup playoff series game on April 24, days after the iconic musician’s untimely death. Joe Satriani’s “Crowd Chant” had been used by the team after goals in previous seasons.

“Our in-arena experience is designed for the fans, so it’s great to be able to show them we take their feedback to heart,” said John Maher, Minnesota Wild vice president of brand, content and communications. “At the same time, it’s our privilege to celebrate an iconic hometown artist that clearly has had an incredible impact on our community and the world.”

The Wild’s opening home preseason game is slated for September 27 against the Colorado Avalanche. Xcel Energy Center will host the team’s first regular season home game against the St. Louis Blues on October 13.
