Metallica Honors Ozzy Osbourne At M72 World Tour Finale In London

Metallica played the 99th and final — at least for now — show of their M72 World Tour on Saturday at London Stadium. The show included a special tribute to the late Ozzy Osbourne and Black Sabbath during guitarist Kirk Hammett and bassist Rob Trujillo's nightly “Kirk And Rob Doodle.”

“A year ago today was a very important event. Back to the Beginning, Black Sabbath and so many other people. Someone just gave me this right now and it’s pretty powerful,” Trujillo told the crowd while holding up a sign. “It says, ‘Do It For Ozzy.'”

Most “Kirk And Rob Doodles” honor artists from the city, country or region where Metallica played. Trujillo continued by explaining he’d continue the tradition with Hammett.

“So we’ve got a little bit of a mashup here. Oh yeah. Ozzy, we love you and we miss you brother. So let’s do this. Let’s get into this, check it out. It’s a mashup of our two favorite bands and we’re gonna figure it out here in a minute.”

Kirk Hammett and Rob Trujillo wound up mashing up Black Sabbath’s “Electric Funeral” with “Holiday In The Sun” by Sex Pistols. Trujillo sang each of the legendary British bands’ songs.

Metallica were part of the all-star lineup for the July 5, 2025 event at Villa Park in Birmingham, England. The band fit covers of Black Sabbath’s “Hole In The Sky” and “Johnny Blade” into their six-song set. Ozzy Osbourne died at age 76 less than a month later on July 22, 2025.

The M72 World Tour began on April 27, 2023. Most stops of the global outing in support of Metallica’s 72 Seasons consisted of two shows with the promise of “no repeats.” One such “No Repeat Weekend” was delivered in London on July 3 and 5. The finale saw the band load the setlist with classics and tour staples.

Metallica now has three months off before kicking off their highly anticipated 24-show Las Vegas Sphere residency on October 1. The metal legends will continue their “No Repeat Weekend” format, promising different setlists for each Thursday and Saturday performance through March 13.
