Metallica performed acoustic and electric sets as part of their Helping Hands Concert & Auction livestream event. The performance, Metallica’s first pay-per-view livestream, was a benefit for the band’s All Within My Hands charity foundation.
Performing from their headquarters in San Rafael, California, Metallica began the first set with a new acoustic arrangement of the …and Justice for All track “Blackened.” Metallica was joined throughout the acoustic set by multi-instrumentalist Avi Vinocur and keyboardist Henry Salvia. The acoustic portion also featured covers of “When a Blind Man Cries” by Deep Purple and “Turn The Page” by Bob Seger, alongside “Creeping Death,” “The Unforgiven,” “Nothing Else Matters” and the apt closer, “All Within My Hands.”
The unannounced electric second set began with the Masters Of Puppets song “Disposable Heroes,” which frontman James Hetfield explained was, “a heavy song we did acoustic and we’re doing heavy, the acoustic version way.”
Next came the band’s debut cover of “The House Of The Rising Sun” and the first “Wasting My Hate” since 2011. A trio of classics rounded out the set as the metal icons delivered “For Whom The Bell Tolls,” “Master Of Puppets” and “Enter Sandman,” bringing an end to the charity concert.
