Watch Wu-Tang Clan’s RZA & GZA Join Lettuce In Denver

Longtime collaborators Lettuce and GZA linked up for a Fourth Of July concert at Cervantes’ Masterpiece Ballroom in Denver. GZA was in Colorado for a show with the Wu-Tang Clan and brought along his bandmate RZA, who also sat in with Lettuce for a tribute to Sly Stone and more.

RZA and GZA wrapped their concert with Wu-Tang Clan at Fiddler’s Green Amphitheatre and then made their way from the suburban venue into the city to join Lettuce at Cervantes’. The guests emerged early into Lettuce’s second set.

GZA was first to share the stage with the band and kicked off his appearance with “Duel of the Iron Mic” from his 1995 album, Liquid Swords. Next came “Crash Your Crew” from GZA’s 1999 album Beneath The Surface.

The collaboration continued with the rarity, “Animal Planet,” a track originating with Lettuce drummer Adam Deitch and Soulive guitarist Eric Krasno’s production duo, Fyre Department that GZA appeared on in 2005. Lettuce then laid out while GZA rapped verses of “Destruction of a Guard.” The “Liquid Swords” title track followed, with RZA taking the stage to join his Wu-Tang bandmate.

RZA, who celebrated his birthday the next day at Phish’s concert in Boulder, also joined Lettuce on a medley of Wu-Tang Clan’s “Protect Ya Neck,” “Shame on a Nigga,” “C.R.E.A.M” and “Wu‐Tang Clan Ain’t Nuthing ta F’ Wit.” RZA also led a version of “Family Affair,” paying tribute to the late Sly Stone of Sly & The Family Stone. Lettuce ended the set by segueing into “Make It Funky.”
