LCD Soundsystem has shared “Call The Police” and “American Dream”:
Last month, LCD Soundsystem performed a series of shows at the grand opening of Brooklyn Steel in the East Williamsburg neighborhood of New York City. The band debuted new songs during the five night run and two of them are being released as singles today.
In a post to the band’s Facebook page, James Murphy revealed the rolling release of “Call The Police” and “American Dream,” both of which were played opening night at Brooklyn Steel. Murphy mixed “American Dream,” while his friend Dave Sardy handled the “Call The Police” mix. The singles will be available at midnight tonight, or as Murphy explains “literally, midnight. wherever you are. so, like, Australia first, and so on and so forth)” so the songs have already begun to go live down under.
Murphy’s post also provided an update on the band’s long-awaited “seriously almost done” new studio album. Here’s James on the forthcoming album [sic throughout]:
as eager as folks have been for me to get this done, it’s got nothing on how much i want to be finished myself. it’s been one of the most enjoyable records to make in my life, if not the most fun ever (i think it is, for sure, the happiest i’ve ever been making a record.) so it will be sad in some ways to see it leave the house etc., but we’re really looking forward to not feeling “late” all the time, and being able to do things like plan a weekend to do something fun. or respond to an email about eating with a friend with something other than “i’m sorry! i’m totally buried in the LP! check with me in a month?”
The Facebook message goes on to detail how Murphy’s desire to have the new album available on vinyl at the time of its release has impacted the date it will come out. The post also explains the band’s touring decisions and other aspects of LCD’s future (which includes their debut on Saturday Night Live tomorrow). Read the full message below.
