Kevin Morby previewed his soon-to-be-released Sundowner album by unveiling its title track. Sundowner comes out next Friday, October 16 through Dead Oceans.

Morby tapped Brad Cook to produce the follow-up to 2019’s Oh My God. The 10-track LP was recorded at Sonic Ranch in Tornillo, Texas in January 2019. Kevin plays most of the instrumental parts on Sundowner, which also features Cook on bass and keyboards and James Krivchenia on percussion.

Kevin describes “Sundowner” as “the center of gravity for the rest of the album.” Here’s more from Morby on the track:

When I first moved back home to Kansas after having lived on both coasts for over a decade, I found myself – for the first time – dreading the sun going down. This was a foreign feeling for me. In both Los Angeles and New York, I resisted the day light and thrived in the night – something I have sung about many times, most notably on my album City Music. But suddenly there I was, isolated in the Midwest in late autumn – the days growing increasingly shorter – chasing the sun as best I could.

Next up for Kevin Morby’s virtual tour is a complete performance of Oh My God beginning at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT tomorrow, Thursday, October 8 via Noon Chorus. Morby will play all of Sundowner on release day next Friday.
