Kendra & the Bunnies, the project led by Kendra Muecke, released a new single entitled “NYKO, NYKO” accompanied by a video for the track. “NYKO, NYKO” features contributions on guitar from Marcus Rezak and on percussion by The Higgs‘ Garrett Morris.
The song is the first single from Kendra & The Bunnies’ forthcoming album, of Thank You, which is due in September. Muecke was inspired to write “NYKO, NYKO” when she saw a license plate that read “NYKO334” while leaving the airport in her hometown of Los Angeles following a trip to record in New York City.

“The song’s playing style is heavily inspired by traditional blues musicians,” reads a note in press materials announcing the new single. Kendra & The Bunnies’ lyric and chord progressions on “NYKO, NYKO” come in part from “Iko, Iko” and “Not Fade Away.” The band is big fans of the Grateful Dead, who covered both tunes, and will donate 5% of sales from the track to the Rex Foundation.
Kendra & The Bunnies tapped Matt Kilgore to film and direct the “NYKO, NYKO” video. Check it out below:
