Umphrey’s McGee keyboardist Joel Cummins performed a number of UM originals during his Plays All Of The Umphrey’s Hits livestream on Wednesday night. Cummins also fit in a handful of covers including songs by Bill Evans, My Morning Jacket, Pink Floyd and the Beatles.
Joel opened with “In Memory Of His Father” by Bill Evans and then performed the prelude/adagio of Beethoven’s “Sonata Pathetique.” A run of Scott Joplin’s “Maple Leaf Rag,” the Beatles’ “You Never Give Me Your Money,” Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach’s “Solfieggito” and Nat Adderley’s “Work Song” was followed by improv on a Yamaha Reface CP synthesizer that led into Pink Floyd’s “Breathe.”

Cummins offered a second helping of Pink Floyd live from his home in Santa Monica with a performance of “Great Gig In The Sky.” From there, Joel played the Umphrey’s McGee classic “August” complete with rarity “Rising Bird” within. Umphrey’s McGee played “Rising Bird,” off Cummins’ 1995 solo album Suspended In Time: An Epic, for the first time in 16 years last October in Athens. The pianist had more UM in store via “Glory” and “2×2” before ending the set with My Morning Jacket’s “Golden.” Watch Joel’s Wednesday night performance below:
