Joe Russo’s Almost Dead Welcomes Chris Robinson In Telluride

Joe Russo’s Almost Dead concluded a run of three performances with a set at The RIDE Festival in Telluride, Colorado on Sunday afternoon. The band was joined by keyboardist Erik Deutsch of Leftover Salmon for the run as Marco Benevento sat out the brief jaunt. Yesterday’s JRAD set at Town Park in Telluride came to a close with help from vocalist Chris Robinson.

Deutsch, drummer Joe Russo, bassist Dave Dreiwitz and guitarists Scott Metzger and Tom Hamilton opened their RIDE Festival set with “Reuben & Cerise.” JRAD continued on with an adventurous “The Music Never Stopped” featuring Metzger on lead vocals and wild electric piano work from Deutsch. JRAD built to a huge peak before dropping into “Brown-Eyed Women.” The 90-minute set continued with Metzger channeling Ron “Pigpen” McKernan on “Easy Wind.”

There was hardly a pause between the final notes of “Easy Wind” and the start of “Help On The Way.” JRAD toyed with the tempo throughout the eerie and evil “Slipknot!” segment that followed. The five-piece explored various jam spaces before finally settling in on “Samson & Delilah.” Next, the band brought out Chris Robinson for the “Bertha” finale. Robinson shared lead vocal duties with Tom Hamilton on “Bertha.” Chris was on hand for a performance with his Chris Robinson Brotherhood outfit.
