The Jerry Garcia Family Announces ‘GarciaLive Volume 13’ Listening Party

The Jerry Garcia Family will preview GarciaLive Volume 13: September 16th, 1989 Poplar Creek Music Theatre this Thursday, April 23 at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT through a live listening party on the Jerry Garcia Facebook page and the JamBase Livestreams Calendar. GarciaLive Volume 13 will be officially released via Round Records this Friday, April 24.
On September 16, 1989 the Jerry Garcia Band was joined by Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band saxophonist Clarence Clemons for the whole show. Clemons was also on-hand for the four previous JGB concerts. The “Big Man” added to the classic JGB lineup of Garcia, bassist John Kahn, keyboardist Melvin Seals and drummer David Kemper as well as vocalists Jacklyn LaBranch and Gloria Jones.

“Clarence is right there with [Garcia], bleating and honking and purring and sounding like all his influences—from Maceo Parker and Lee Allen to King Curtis and Junior Walker—rolled into one powerful package that was unmistakably Clarence Clemons,” wrote Blair Jackson in the liner notes for the set. “He’s definitely not laying back, and his assertiveness clearly pushes Garcia to play harder and louder and funkier at every turn.”
