Jeff Tweedy brought his solo band to London this past weekend to close out the European leg of a tour in support of his 2025 solo album, Twilight Override. Tweedy continued a trend developed over the course of the run by honoring a series of beloved British acts towards the end of his Friday and Saturday night shows at Islington Assembly Hall.
The Wilco frontman paid tribute to artists associated with area where he was performing at several of his European concerts. On Friday, at Tweedy’s first of two nights at London’s Islington Assembly Hall, he guided his solo band on debut covers of Richard & Linda Thompson’s “I Want To See The Bright Lights Tonight” and Brian Eno’s “Needles In The Camel’s Eye.”
At the tour closer in London on Saturday, Tweedy led his ensemble through first-time takes on T. Rex’s “Children Of The Revolution,” The Kinks’ “This Time Is Tomorrow” and The Clash’s “London Calling.”. The covers on both nights came during the encore of shows that focused heavily on material from Twilight Override.
Jeff Tweedy discussed his intention to perform location-appropriate covers before lighting into T. Rex’s 1972 hit on Saturday. He noted it was hard to pick songs in some cities but not in London. Sammy Tweedy handled lead vocals on “Children Of The Revolution.”
Next up at the last show of the tour was “This Time Is Tomorrow.” The Kinks originally released the song in 1970 on their iconic Lola Versus Powerman and the Moneygoround, Part One album. Jeff Tweedy strapped on an acoustic guitar as he belted out “This Time Is Tomorrow.”
Tweedy went back to electric to front his band on the Clash’s 1979 smash “London Calling.” The crowd screamed along as Jeff Tweedy delivered the lyrics.
