Wilco frontman Jeff Tweedy swung by the Ed Sullivan Theater on Monday for an appearance on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert. After sitting for an interview segment with actor/comedian Nick Offerman, Tweedy teamed with Paramore's Hayley Williams and her solo band to cover Unknown Mortal Orchestra's “Ffunny Ffriends” to close out the episode.
Jeff Tweedy returned to Colbert following the recent conclusion of an extensive tour in support of his 2025 solo album Twilight Override. Each night of the trek saw Tweedy and his band — sons Sammy and Spencer Tweedy, Macie Stewart, Liam Kazar and Sima Cunningham — cover songs associated with the cities they played. Tweedy debuted his “Ffunny Ffriends” cover on April Fool's Day in UMO’s homebase of Portland, Oregon.
Hayley Williams stuck around New York City after a three-night stand at Hammerstein Ballroom as part of her ongoing Hayley Williams At A Bachelorette Party tour. Williams and her solo ensemble were accompanied by Jeff Tweedy on electric guitar and backing vocals for the collaborative take on the opening track from Unknown Mortal Orchestra’s self-titled 2011 debut album.
Tweedy, who along with Offerman regaled the Colbert audience with tales of their friendship, will soon reunite with Wilco for an 11-date spring tour. The outing begins on April 23 in Fort Wayne, Indiana and runs through a gig in Albuquerque on May 8.
