Wilco frontman Jeff Tweedy was a guest on last night’s The Late Show With Stephen Colbert episode. Tweedy’s appearance was not as a musician but for his role in authoring his latest book, World Within A Song and his discussion with host Stephen Colbert turned to Tweedy’s hatred of a song written by Dolly Parton.
World Within A Song consists of essays written by Tweedy about the songs that have a meaningful impact on his life. Not every song featured in the book is one of Tweedy’s favorites, and he specifically called out a classic written by Dolly Parton.

Host Stephen Colbert asked Tweedy about the former’s distaste for Dolly Parton’s song “I Will Always Love You.” The song is one of Parton’s best-known compositions and was popularized by Whitney Houston for the soundtrack to the 1992 film The Bodyguard.
“I love Dolly Parton,” Tweedy prefaced his statement, before adding, “All I know is that she wrote ‘Jolene’ and ‘I Will Always Love You’ in the same day, and I wish she would have stopped at ‘Jolene.’”
Tweedy tried to explain part of his reasoning for disliking one of the most well-known songs ever written, watch the exchange below:
