Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit capped off the eastern portion of their 2022 winter tour on Saturday with the second of two nights at the Palace Theatre in Louisville, Kentucky. Isbell and company busted out a cover of Neil Young’s “Like A Hurricane” for the first time in more than three years to close out the evening.
Jason Isbell And The 400 Unit, which included part-time member and Jason’s wife fiddler Amanda Shires in Louisville, began the show with “What’ve I Done To Help” from their latest album of original material, 2020’s Reunions. The band would also deliver Reunions tracks “Overseas,” “Only Children” and “It Gets Easier.”

Isbell and company’s “Hope The High Road” off 2017’s The Nashville Sound fell in the second slot followed by Isbell solo cut “24 Frames. Guitarist Sadler Vaden then led the group through his old band Drivin N Cryin’s “Honeysuckle Blue,” which appears on Jason Isbell And The 400 Unit’s Georgia Blue charity covers album featuring material from Georgia artists. The 400 Unit would also deliver R.E.M’s “Nightswimming” and “Driver 8” from Georgia Blue along with Cat Power’s “Cross Bones Style” featuring Amanda Shires. Isbell also included original favorites like “Super 8,” “Traveling Alone,” “Stockholm” and “Cover Me Up” to close out the main set.
Isbell got the encore underway by welcoming singer-songwriter Adia Victoria for a cover of Precious Bryant’s “The Truth.” Jason then turned to a song, “Decoration Day,” from his Drive-By Truckers tenure. After Isbell led the band through the tune, he and Shires would both take solos before the band segued seamlessly into Neil Young’s “Like A Hurricane,” last time played on October 27, 2018 at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium, as per SetlsitFM. Vaden and bassist Jimbo Hart joined Jason in harmony on the chorus and Sadler provided some guitar fireworks to bring the song home.
