Warren Haynes was Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit‘s special guest on Thursday at the Collaborating For A Cure Gala benefit held at Cipriani Wall Street in New York City. The Gov’t Mule guitarist helped Isbell & The 400 Unit close their set at the annual fundraiser for the Samuel Waxman Cancer Research Foundation with covers of songs by Drivin N Cryin, The Black Crowes and The Allman Brothers Band.

Jason Isbell & The 400 Unit went heavy on songs from their 2020 studio album, Reunions for their performance at the benefit, including “What’ve I Done To Help,” “Dreamsicle,” “Overseas,” “Only Children,” and “Be Afraid.” The group also worked in “Hope The High Road,” “If We Were Vampires” and “Last Of My Kind” off 2017’s The Nashville Sound as part of their 16-song performance.

Haynes, who previously performed at the 2012 Samuel Waxman Cancer Research Foundation benefit concert, joined in for three songs featured on Jason Isbell & The 400 Unit’s recently released Georgia Blue charity covers album. The 13-track LP consists of songs from musicians associated with Georgia and followed through on a promise Isbell made on election night when now President Joe Biden won Georgia.

400 Unit guitarist Sadler Vaden handled lead vocals on Drivin N Cryin’s “Honeysuckle Blue” to start Haynes’ time on stage with the band. Next came a take on The Black Crowes’ “Sometimes Salvation.” The set and Warren’s guest spot came to a close with a cover of The Allman Brothers Band instrumental “In Memory Of Elizabeth Reed.” Warren Haynes was a member of The Allman Brothers Band from 1989 through 1997 and again from 2000 through 2014.
