Jason Isbell & The 400 Unit Welcomes Kevn Kinney In Atlanta

Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit closed out a four-night stand in Atlanta on Sunday with help from Kevn Kinney. Last night’s show at The Tabernacle, which was also the group’s final concert of 2021, saw the Drivin N Cryin frontman lead Isbell & The 400 Unit through “Honeysuckle Blue” to start the encore.

Drivin’ N’ Cryin originally released “Honeysuckle Blue” on their 1989 studio album, Mystery Road. The song was among Georgia-related covers recorded by Jason Isbell & The 400 Unit for their Georgia Blue covers album benefiting nonprofit organizations Black Voters Matter, Fair Fight and Georgia STAND-UP. 400 Unit guitarist Sadler Vaden sang lead for the version featured on Georgia Blue and on 31 live versions played by the band in recent months.

Kevn Kinney emerged with Jason Isbell & The 400 Unit last night following the band’s 17-song main set at The Tab. Isbell and company went heavy on material from their 2020 album, Reunions, as all but one song from the LP made the setlist last night. Kinney handled vocals on the “Honeysuckle Blue” that began last night’s encore. Jason Isbell & The 400 Unit then performed another cover featured on Georgia Blue by ending the night with a take on The Allman Brothers Band classic “In Memory Of Elizabeth Reed.”
