The String Cheese Incident returned to The Pines Music Park in Eau Claire, Wisconsin for this year’s edition of The Campout In The Pines. The Colorado-based band brought fellow Colorado natives Leftover Salmon out to this year’s event, which generated multiple cross-group collaborations.
LoS got the weekend started with the first performance on the main stage. SCI followed with a pair of sets of their own, with Eggy holding down Friday’s late-night slot at the intimate Backwoods Stage.
The String Cheese Incident guitarist made his first appearance of the weekend when he wandered onstage while Leftover Salmon played The Allman Brothers Band’s “Whipping Post.” LoS guitarist Vince Herman handed Nershi his instrument and switched over to playing washboard for the set-closing collab.
Herman’s signature “festival!” shout drew cheers from the crowd at the conclusion of the weekend’s opening set. The guitarist, along with LoS mandolinist Drew Emmitt, percussionist Alwyn Robinson, dobro player Jay Starling and banjo player Andy Thorn were summoned back to the main stage near the end of The String Cheese Incident’s first of two sets on Friday.
The multi-band segment featuring 11 people on the stage began with the rarity “Zombie Jamboree.” Herman exited in front of the ensuing SCI and LoS take on the fitting “Colorado Bluebird Sky.”
Saturday’s Campout In The Pines schedule featured two additional SCI sets, along with Lettuce on the main stage and Dogs In A Pile holding down the late-night Backwoods Stage. Both of The String Cheese Incident’s performances at The Campout In The Pines can be watched via official nugs livestream replays.
