Indigo Girls were guests on Wednesday’s episode of Late Night With Seth Meyers. Co-leaders Amy Ray and Emily Saliers sat for an interview with host Seth Meyers and performed their new song “What We Wanna Be.”
Both Ray and Saliers appear in the musical feature film, Glitter & Doom, and recorded “What We Wanna Be” for the Tom Gustafson-directed movie. The film’s music is made up entirely of Indigo Girls songs.

Regarding “What We Wanna Be,” Saliers stated:
“The story of the end credit song was inspired by the film’s characters Glitter and Doom and by my own experience of peeling off the layers of things I have built over the years to shield me from pain or even my own truth. It is a conversation between Glitter and Doom and their endeavor to find healing through the love they have kindled together. And as importantly, the grace that allows them to live fully as their own selves. Because of Michelle Chamuel’s richly creative and unique approach as the producer of our songs in the film, we were thrilled to be able to bring a new song to fruition with her.”
In addition to their song “Closer To Fine” being a centerpiece of last year’s blockbuster Barbie movie, Indigo Girls are the subject of a new full-length documentary It’s Only Life After All. The pair will tour throughout the coming months, including a co-headlining run with Amos Lee.
