Greensky Bluegrass concluded a four-night Southeast stint with Duane Betts and his Palmetto Motel band on Saturday at The Eastern in Atlanta. The string quintet welcomed the guitarist for original “Monument” along with a classic from his dad Dickey Betts’ Allman Brothers Band catalog.

GSBG launched the concert with a three-song seamless sequence that saw staples “Just To Lie” and “It’s Not Mine Anymore” sandwiching “Hold On.” Following “Reverend,” guitarist Dave Bruzza led the band through “Blood Sucking F(r)iends.” Next came a pairing of Bob Marley’s “Stop That Train” and “Give A Shit” from the quintet’s latest studio album, 2022’s Stress Dreams.

A “Tarpology” segment incorporated a cover of Pink Floyd’s “One Slip,” a co-write between Floyd guitarist David Gilmour and Roxy Music guitarist Phil Manzanera. The song appears on Pink Floyd’s 1987 album, A Momentary Lapse of Reason. “Windshield” wrapped the first frame.

“The Four” began set two followed by “Like Reflections.” The band then slotted “Burn Them” within “Reuben’s Train.” “Ashes, “Absence of Reason” and “Worried About the Weather” came next ahead of the Duane Betts sit-in.

Greensky welcomed Duane beginning with Stress Dreams cut “Monument.” Mandolinist Paul Hoffman helmed the tune and took the first solo followed by a run from banjo player Michael Bont.

Betts soon got in on the action spurred on by dobro player Anders Beck who also traded licks with the guitarist in a spirited exchange. Beck then took a ride before the band threw some some solos around ahead of the song’s conclusion.

Anders then dropped the collab into The Allman Brothers Band classic “Midnight Rider” with the song’s familiar riff. Greensky’s first performance of the Gregg Allman-penned Idlewild South (1970) cut saw Duane Betts playing his dad’s middle solo on the song and also swapped more fireworks with Anders.

After wrapping the second set and sit-in with “Midnight Rider,” Greensky Bluegrass returned to encore with Stress Dreams’ “Grow Together.” Watch GSBG and Duane Betts perform “Monument” and “Midnight Rider” below:
