Greensky Bluegrass welcomed singer-songwriter and guitarist Cris Jacobs to close out the second set of their concert on Saturday in Frederick, Maryland. Jacobs would join GSBG for the Buddy Holly classic “Not Fade Away” and more for Greensky’s second of three “Show Time At The Drive-In” concerts.

Greensky Bluegrass — mandolinist Paul Hoffman, guitarist Dave Bruzza, banjoist Michael Bont, bassist Mike Devol and dobro player Anders Beck — got the show underway with a three-song segment beginning with “Just To Lie” and continuing with “Hold On” and “Burn Them,” with the latter featuring another friend of the band, Guido Batista, on tambourine. The Bill Monroe popularized bluegrass standard “Working On A Building” followed ahead of “Do It Alone” from GSBG’s 2019 album All For Money. “Living Over” and “200 Miles From Montana” came next ahead of a set closing segment beginning with “Broke Mountain Breakdown” which led into The James Gang’s “Walk Away” before returning to “Broke Mountain Breakdown” to close out the first frame.

Greensky kicked off the second set with the favorite “In Control” from the band’s landmark 2014 album If Sorrows Swim ahead of the title track to All For Money. “Reverend,” “Forget Everything” and “Worried About the Weather” followed before the ban romped through The Stanley Brothers classic “How Mountain Girls Can Love.” GSBG then welcomed Jacobs — who hails from nearby Baltimore — on electric guitar to perform his song “Be My Stars.” Greensky has played the song a few times with Cris dating back to 2017 with the last performance taking place on January 24, 2019 for a total of 123 shows, as per Phantasy Tour. Jacobs would stay on for Greensky’s “Don’t Lie” before helping on one of the only known GSBG performances of Holly’s “Not Fade Away” which found its way back into “Don’t Lie.” The band would return to “Not Fade Away” to close out the set and evening due to time constraints. But as is often the case, the audience helped the band finish up the beloved tune.
