Watch John Fogerty & Steve Winwood Meet ‘In The Midnight Hour’ In Charlotte

John Fogerty called Steve Winwood back to the stage early in his headlining set on Wednesday at Truliant Amphitheater in Charlotte. The tourmates teamed for a cover of Wilson Pickett’s “In The Midnight Hour” in their first onstage collaboration of The Legacy Tour.

The Rock & Roll Hall of Famers began touring together on September 3. Their first collaboration did not arrive until show No. 10.

Winwood emerged four songs into Fogerty’s set following an opening run of “Bad Moon Rising,” “Up Around The Bend” and “Green River.” The pair traded verses on “In The Midnight Hour” while Winwood contributed guitar to the soul classic.

Pickett co-wrote “In The Midnight Hour” with Steve Cropper and released the song in 1965. Wednesday’s performance was just Fogerty’s third documented version, according to Setlist.FM. However, in addition to previous performances at the 1989 Bay Area Music Awards and on March 3, 2017 at Encore Theater in Las Vegas, Fogerty also teamed with Sam Moore for a version at the 1995 “Concert for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame” and at the institution’s 2nd annual induction ceremony in 1987 with B.B. King, Keith Richards and others.

Winwood’s 10-song opening set began with “Glad” and ended with “Gimme Some Lovin’.” “Can’t Find My Way Home,” “Dear Mr. Fantasy,” “Higher Love” and “Back In The High Life Again” were also among his selections. Fogerty and Winwood have three joint dates remaining, beginning Friday in St. Augustine, Florida.
