The newest release in the Grateful Dead’s archival video series All The Years Live is footage of “Reuben & Cherise.” The clip comes from the Dead’s June 6, 1991 concert at Buckeye Lake Music Center in Ohio.
This version of “Reuben & Cherise” was originally included as an “easter egg” bonus in the 2001 concert film View From The Vault, Volume Two. Grateful Dead archivist David Lemieux noted that the Buckeye Lake performance of the Jerry Garcia/Robert Hunter original was the fourth and final time it was played by the band, with all four live performances coming in 1991. Garcia’s 1978 solo studio album, Cats Under The Stars, opens with the song (spelled “Rubin And Cherise,” one of several iterations of the names in the title).
