The Grateful Dead added video of the band performing “Sugar Magnolia,” “Scarlet Begonias” and “Fire On The Mountain” on New Year’s Eve 1978 to their YouTube channel. Culled from Closing Of Winterland, the 30-minute sequence is the second installment of the band’s All The Years Live video series announced last week.
All three songs were recorded during the final concert held at San Francisco’s Winterland Arena. “This is the opening sequence from one of the most famous, and highly regarded, Grateful Dead shows of all time, the Closing Of Winterland,” archivist David Lemieux stated. “With opening acts the New Riders of the Purple Sage and the Blues Brothers, the Dead didn’t hit the stage until midnight, and played until the sun rose. Bill Graham served breakfast to everyone after the show.”

While All The Years Live is expected to feature previously unreleased footage at points, the first two videos are new transfers from old concert films. The Closing Of The Winterland was issued in 2003.
