Gov’t Mule wrapped up their Dark Side Of The Mule Tour with Jason Bonham’s Led Zeppelin Evening at the idyllic Wolf Trap in Vienna, Virginia near Washington D.C. on Sunday, August 20. The quartet and guests including Jackie Greene played nearly every song on Dark Side Of The Moon along with an assortment of other Pink Floyd classics such as the “Comfortably Numb” finale.
Frontman Warren Haynes, drummer Matt Abts, multi-instrumentalist Danny Louis and new bassist Kevin Scott were joined by Jackie Greene, saxophonist Ron Holloway and vocalists Machan Taylor and Sophia Ramos for the Dark Side Of The Mule portion of each show on a run that started back on July 22 in Atlantic City. The tour came in celebration of Dark Side Of The Moon’s 50th anniversary and was billed as the final time Gov’t Mule will trot out the tribute.

Jason Bonham’s Led Zeppelin Evening kicked off the festivities at Wolf Trap’s Filene Center space on Sunday. The son of drummer John Bonham was behind the kit to lead his band through 11 Led Zeppelin songs. After opening with “Immigrant Song,” JBLZE took on “Good Times Bad Times,” “The Ocean” and “Over The Hills And Far Away.” Other Zeppelin gems to make the setlist included “Ramble On,” “Black Dog,” “Thank You” and “Whole Lotta Love.” Jason Bonham got the crowd involved in singing “Take Me Home, Country Roads” within “Misty Mountain Hop.” Bonham and Co. capped their set with “Rock & Roll.”
Gov’t Mule presented six originals to begin their marathon set. The recently released album Peace…Like A River was represented by “Shake Our Way Out,” “Peace I Need” and “Dreaming Out Loud” following the pairing of “Brighter Days” and “Revolution Come, Revolution Go” to open. “Thorns Of Life” prefaced the Dark Side Of The Mule portion of the set.
Up first in the Pink Floyd tribute was “Shine On You Crazy Diamond (Parts I-V),” “Have A Cigar” and “Welcome To The Machine.” Then the ensemble worked through Dark Side Of The Moon in order from “Speak To Me” through “Any Colour You Like.” Both “Brain Damage” and “Eclipse” were left out in Vienna as they were at all 18 stops of the tour.
The main set concluded with a run of “One Of These Days,” “Fearless” and “Echoes, Part 2.” Haynes and Greene then shared lead vocal duties on the “Comfortably Numb” finale.
