Gov’t Mule delivered a set at Willie Nelson’s Outlaw Music Festival on Sunday at the Riverbend Music Center in Cincinnati, Ohio. The quartet welcomed Micah Nelson and Jackie Greene for a bust out of Neil Young’s “Revolution Blues.”

Gov’t Mule’s Outlaw Music Festival slot came in the midst of their Dark Side Of The Mule Tour, which features multi-instrumentalist Jackie Greene and saxophonist Ron Holloway — who both joined Mule as guests at Willie’s Outlaw stop in Cincinnati. The “Revolution Blues” cover saw Greene guesting as well as Willie’s son Micah Nelson, who is no stranger to the tune as a member of Promise Of The Real when backing Neil Young.

“Revolution Blues” appears on Young’s 1974 album, On The Beach. Gov’t Mule had not played the rarity since NYE 2017 at the Beacon Theatre in NYC, as per SetlistFM stats. Interestingly, Mule debuted the song in Cincinnati on Halloween 2014.

For their most recent performance of “Revolution Blues” in Cincy, Gov’t Mule guitarist Warren Haynes and Jackie Greene shared lead vocal duties. Both guitarists took smoking solos as did Micah Nelson, with all three axe men coming together for a shred session on the rocker. Watch the performance below:

Gov’t Mule launched their Outlaw set with Mule tracks “Traveling Tune,” “Wake Up Dead,” “Banks Of The Deep End” and “Time To Confess.” The band got the guest portion of the set going with longtime Willie Nelson harmonica player Mickey Raphael joining in for The Allman Brothers Band’s “Melissa” ahead of “Revolution Blues.” Dark Side Of The Mule collaborator Ron Holloway added sax on the band’s cover of “Feel Like Like Breaking Up Somebody’s Home.” The set ended with Warren Haynes’ ABB classic “Soulshine.”

The Dark Side Of The Mule Tour is currently on the East Coast. Check out the itinerary below:
