Olivia Rodrigo Brings Out Sarah McLachlan, Stevie Nicks & Alanis Morissette At Inaugural Daisy Chain Fields

Olivia Rodrigo brought out Stevie Nicks, Sarah McLachlan and Alanis Morissette during her headlining set at the inaugural Daisy Chain Fields festival on Saturday, at Great Park Live in Irvine, California. The all-women event, which Rodrigo created, curated and headlined, drew an estimated 45,000 attendees.

Rodrigo’s closing set drew heavily from her latest album, You Seem Pretty Sad For A Girl So In Love, before turning to a run of guest collaborations. McLachlan, whose late-1990s traveling festival Lilith Fair inspired Rodrigo to launch Daisy Chain Fields, joined Rodrigo for “Building a Mystery” and “Angel,” with the latter dedicated to Dolly Parton, who died earlier in the week.

Morissette then came out for a surprise duet on “Ironic,” replacing Karen O, who had originally been announced as a guest but withdrew due to a family emergency. Nicks closed the night with Rodrigo on the Fleetwood Mac classic “Landslide.”

Ahead of her set, Rodrigo announced that Daisy Chain Fields had raised $10 million for 10 nonprofit organizations supporting women and girls, funded through ticket sales, fully waived artist fees and various donations. Philanthropist Melinda French Gates then joined her onstage to reveal she would match that total through Pivotal, the organization she founded to advance social progress for women and girls, bringing the combined donation to $20 million.

“Daisy Chain Fields is about what can happen when we come together and use our collective power to support one another,” said Rodrigo. “I’m incredibly grateful to Melinda and Pivotal for believing in this mission and making the impact of our first festival twice as powerful. Most of all, I’m so excited about what this means for the incredible organizations we’re supporting and the women, girls and communities they show up for every single day.”

“Olivia Rodrigo is a force,” French Gates stated. “What Daisy Chain Fields sets in motion will last far beyond a single night, by opening up opportunity for women and girls around the world and showing a new generation how much their voices matter. I’m so proud to support Olivia’s vision.”

The funds will be divided equally among Baby2Baby, Black Mamas Matter Alliance, Center for Reproductive Rights, FreeFrom, Jhpiego, Johns Hopkins Center for Indigenous Health, National Domestic Workers Alliance, National Institute for Reproductive Health, National Women’s Law Center and Planned Parenthood.

Rodrigo announced the festival in June, saying she had “had a dream of doing this festival for years.” The bill also included Chappell Roan, Doechii, Mitski, Garbage, The Breeders, Bikini Kill, Santigold, KATSEYE, Die Spitz, Rachel Chinouriri, Eli, Quiet Light and Not for Radio, spread across the festival’s Marigold and Dandelion stages.
