Goose’s 2023 Fall Tour rolled through Detroit on Saturday following their headlining slot at Borderland Festival. The band recently shared footage of highlight “Wysteria Lane,” which stretched out to 24 minutes at Motown’s Masonic Temple.
The studio version of “Wysteria Lane” appears on the 2020 EP, Night Lights. But the song originates in the Vasudo catalog with El Goose noting that the proto-Goose band performed the tune on August 10, 2012. Goose debuted the song on July 14, 2017 in Wilmington, North Carolina.

The recent Detroit rendition marked the 92nd “Wysteria Lane” performance by Goose and fell in the third slot of the first set. The song starts out with a double guitar attack from Rick Mitarotonda and Peter Anspach. The jam saw Peter layering in synth textures as Rick continued to solo over the foundation laid down by rhythm section drummer Ben Atkind, percussionist Jeff Arevalo and bassist Trevor Weekz.
About halfway through the 24-minute excursion, Anspach switched to keys proper as Mitarotonda climbed ever higher. After a peak, the song cooled down as Peter led a piano sequence with Rick working some backward guitar effects adding a psychedelic sheen to the tail end of the tune.

Goose opened the Detroit show with “Turbulence & The Night Rays” followed by “The Whales” which flowed into “Wysteria Lane.” A cover of Eddy Grant’s “Electric Avenue” came next ahead of 17-minute “Red Bird” closer.
The second set got underway with “Yeti.” “Borne” then launched a three song seamless sequence that also included a nearly 20-minute “Hungersite” and a cover of The Clash’s “Rock The Casbah.” A pairing of “726” and a massive “Arrow” concluded the second set. Goose returned to encore with “Silver Rising.”
