Goose rolled out pro-shot video of their “Red Bird” collaboration with guitarist Trey Anastasio. The 17-minute “Red Bird” was filmed at the Cool Insuring Arena in Glens Falls, New York this past Sunday, November 13.

Sunday’s stop in Glens Falls was the fourth of eight Goose and Trey Anastasio Band concerts as part of their joint fall tour. Anastasio emerged at the of Goose’s set in Glens Falls, as he has for each night of the TABoose Tour, to jam with the Connecticut-based quintet. Trey sat-in on both “Red Bird” and “Hot Tea” after Goose launched the frame with “So Ready,” “California Magic,” brand new original “Thatch,” a cover of “Don’t Do It” and a 20-minute “Madhuvan.”

The Phish guitarist has devoted each of his Goose guest appearances to originals from throughout the band’s career. “Red Bird” first took flight at San Francisco's Regency Ballroom on January 29, 2022. Multi-instrumentalist Peter Anspach penned the song in part as a tribute to his mother, Rita, as noted by The El Goose Times. “[Peter] wrote it and played it for me — just his voice and an acoustic guitar. I couldn’t even speak. I just listened to it on the phone and it was so beautiful,” Rita told The El Goose Times in recalling the first time she heard the song. “There were really no words to describe it. I think that was something he absolutely needed to do.”

While Anspach typically handles lead vocals on “Red Bird,” he shared those duties with Trey Anastasio in Glens Falls. The TAB frontman sang the third verse at Cool Insuring Arena. Anastasio started the jam by dropping one angular lead after another as Rick Mitarotonda picked up on the melodies and offered variations. Mitarotonda and Anastasio went on to swap solos before uniting for anthemic dual lead guitar patterns. The six musicians eventually modulated to a different key and jammed outside the lines. Rick and Trey fronted a build to a massive peak towards the end of “Red Bird” and dueled with each other as the rest of Goose went silent.
