Goose Rains Down Cover Bust Outs In Florida

Night two in Fort Lauderdale featured rare appearances of “U.S. Blues” and a massively jammed-out “Kung-Fu Fighting.”

Goose mixed things up on Wednesday at the second of two straight shows at War Memorial Auditorium in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The band covered “Kung Fu Fighting” for the first time since 2019 and “U.S. Blues” for the first time since 2023.

Perhaps hinting at the setlist that would unfold over the course of the evening’s two sets, “Same Old Shenanigans” opened the concert. Next came “U.S. Blues,” the Grateful Dead song played once prior by Goose on July 4, 2023, marking 179 shows since that debut.

“California Magic” landed in the third slot ahead of the other big bust out of the night, “Kung Fu Fighting” by Carl Douglas. Goose had gone 479 shows since the last time they covered the disco classic on March 1, 2019. Wednesday’s 22-minute version of “Kung Fu Fighting” was the third overall Goose performance, including its first appearance in 2016.

Set one ended with a transition into “Iguana Song” and the closing take on “Turned Clouds.” Reviewing the first set’s song selections, some noticed the cover bust outs helped acrostically spell “SUCK IT” from the first letters of the titles.

The second part of the concert began with “SALT.” Goose followed with their second 22-minute song of the night, “Tumble.” The rest of the set was filled in with “Old Man’s Boat,” “Red Bird” and expansive “Madhuvan.” Taking the first letters of the second set’s songs acrostically spelled “STORM.”

Prior to the encore, the nugs livestream projected the tweet above from noted Goose fan and JamBase contributor Ryan Storm (who wrote negatively about part of the band’s first show in Fort Lauderdale on Tuesday).

Bruce Hornsby’s resilient “The Way It Is” was chosen for the encore to complete the “SUCK IT STORM” show at the War Memorial Auditorium.

Goose’s 2026 Spring Tour continues tomorrow, Friday, April 17 in Clearwater, Florida. Livestreams for the band’s spring tour are available via nugs, including an on-demand replay of last night’s Fort Lauderdale show.
