Goose's second annual Viva El Gonzo destination event began yesterday in San José del Cabo, Mexico. The headliners welcomed special guests Cory Wong and Stuart Bogie during their two-set show before Goose guitarist Rick Mitarotonda, keyboardist Peter Anspach and drummer Cotter Ellis joined The Disco Biscuits for an expansive “Helicopters.”

The first of two Goose sets on Thursday started with “Bear,” a The Shouting Matches cover debuted by Goose last December during Goosemas 2025 in Providence. Mitarotonda, Anspach, Ellis and bassist Trevor Weekz followed with “Same Old Shenanigans” before linking “Dr. Darkness” and “Silver Rising,” two songs rolled out early in 2022.

Guitarist Cory Wong, who performed before Goose on the main stage, then became the quartet’s first guest of the event. Wong shredded through Goose original “Mr. Action” and stuck around for a set-closing debut cover of Jimi Hendrix’s “Hey Joe.”

Longtime Goose collaborator Stuart Bogie sat in on woodwinds for the entire second set. The instrumental “Interlude II” from the foursome’s 2016 debut album Moon Cabin opened the frame and bled into a “Jive I” featuring Bogie on sax. Stuart Bogie picked up his clarinet in time for the subsequent cover of Eddy Grant’s “Electric Avenue” before the band and their guest, back on sax, took a lengthy stroll down “Wysteria Lane.” A standalone “So Ready” brought the set and Goose’s encore-less concert to a close.

The Disco Biscuits punctuated the first day of Viva El Gonzo 2026 on the Crania Stage with one long set that incorporated a Tractorbeam performance. After opening with “Home Again” and “Little Shimmy In A Conga Line,” Mitarotonda, Anspach and Ellis emerged for the aforementioned “Helicopters.”

Bisco then performed an unfinished “Hot Air Balloon” that birthed “Scars Of The Brave” ahead of a move into the Tractorbeam remix of “Quad D.” The Tractorbeam portion of the marathon set also included “Better Off Alone,” “Show Me Love,” “Tricycle x Like A Prayer,” “Hymn” and “I Saw Ya Dancing.”

Viva El Gonzo continues on Friday. Livestreams of Goose’s headlining sets and select other performances are available via nugs, including an on-demand replay of last night’s show.
