Full Show Audio: Chris Robinson Brotherhood Plays As Acoustic Trio In Hamburg
By Jeffrey Greenblatt Mar 3, 2018 • 11:30 am PST
Travelers headed anywhere on East Coast of the United States weren’t the only folks having their plans thrown for a loop because of extreme weather-related issues. As we reported yesterday, Chris Robinson Brotherhood announced that they would be playing as an acoustic trio for their scheduled show at Uebel & Gefährlich in Hamburg, Germany since their rhythm section was stuck in Dublin as a snowstorm dubbed the “Beast From the East” hit Europe hard.
As the old adage says “the show must go on,” so Chris Robinson, Neal Casal and Adam MacDougall presented an intimate stripped-down show for their fans in Hamburg. Backed by MacDougall on keys and Casal on guitar the CRB Trio opened the night with a pair of tunes from Barefoot In The Head. Robinson & Co. focussed most of their energies on their original material showing that their brand of psychedelic rock can also be successfully presented in an acoustic format. The band peppered their set with selections from four of their studio albums with takes on the likes of “California Hymn,” “One Hundred Days Of Rain,” “Someday Past The Sunset” and “Badlands Here We Come.”
Midway through their 15-song main set Chris Robinson Acoustic Brotherhood delivered a tender stand out take on The Velvet Underground’s “Femme Fatale” from the influential rock band’s 1967 debut The Velvet Underground & Nico. Robinson also looked to his pre-CRB days offering up The Black Crowes “The Last Place That Love Lives” from the Southern rock act’s 2009 double-album Before the Frost…Until the Freeze, as well as nodding to his time fronting New Earth Mud with “Sunday Sound” from that band’s 2002 debut studio album. Robinson, Casal and MacDougall closed out the night with a two-song encore serving up the Crowes’ “Appaloosa” and a cover of the gospel-tinged song “Bye And Bye.”
Chris Robinson Brotherhood will remain as a trio for at least one more night as they posted the following message to their Facebook page about tonight’s show at the Paradiso in Amsterdam :
