Foo Fighters Dust Off Deep Cuts For Hollywood Bowl Debut With LA Philharmonic

Foo Fighters finally made their Hollywood Bowl debut on Saturday night, joining forces with the Los Angeles Philharmonic and conductor Gustavo Dudamel for a special, one-night-only performance at the historic venue. The 15-song set put an orchestral spin on familiar favorites while also giving several deep cuts and long-dormant songs a rare opportunity to shine.

The concert was part of the Hollywood Bowl’s series of performances celebrating Dudamel, who is departing his post as LA Phil music and artistic director after 17 years to helm the New York Philharmonic. Foo Fighters’ appearance came one night before Dudamel’s final performance with the orchestra at the Bowl as its leader, a Sunday benefit featuring the LA Phil, members of Youth Orchestra Los Angeles (YOLA) and performers from across Latin America and the United States.

“This is a first,” Dave Grohl told the sold-out crowd early in the performance as per Variety. “First of all, I don’t know if you know, but Foo Fighters has never played the Hollywood Bowl before.”

Grohl then acknowledged the night’s other star, asking the audience, “Do you love Dudamel?” before adding, “Me too. So let’s play some rock ’n’ roll for Mr. Dudamel. That’s what we came here to do.”

The collaboration also marked another chapter in Grohl and Dudamel’s recent musical relationship. The pair previously shared the stage at Coachella in 2025, where Dudamel and the LA Phil joined Foo Fighters for orchestral performances of “The Sky Is a Neighborhood” and “Everlong.”

Foo Fighters moved through the opening portion of the set with staples including “Times Like These,” “All My Life,” “The Pretender” and “Walk.” For Saturday’s performance, the band selected a setlist that made room for songs that don’t often appear in their live repertoire.

“Listen, tonight we’re gonna play as many things as we can before we have to stop,” Grohl explained. “You know, we usually play for three hours a night. But tonight, we picked the best songs that we could perform with our friends in the LA Phil and Mr. Gustavo Dudamel. Some of these you may have never heard before. So sit back and enjoy a song called ‘A320.’”

Originally released on the soundtrack to the 1998 film Godzilla, “A320” had only been performed live four times from 1999 – 2000 before the band revived the song in February. It also proved particularly well suited to the orchestral setting, having featured strings on the original recording.

The rarities continued throughout the night.

“I Should Have Known,” from 2011’s Wasting Light, made its first appearance since 2012. “Razor,” a track from 2005’s In Your Honor that Foo Fighters had only performed live in 2005 and 2006, returned for the first time since 2006. “Home,” from 2007’s Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace, was played for only the fifth time overall and made its first appearance since 2007.

The set also included “My Hero,” “Learn to Fly,” “The Sky Is a Neighborhood,” “Run,” “Aurora” and “Best of You.” “Aurora,” in particular, carried added emotional weight as the Foo Fighters dedicated the song to their late drummer Taylor Hawkins. Meanwhile, “The Sky Is A Neighborhood” and “Run” saw Foo Fighters and the LA Phil augmented by the full DC6 Gospel Choir.

The night ended with “Home” followed by “Everlong,” with the latter accompanied by the return of the choir and fireworks over the Hollywood Bowl. Videos from nearly the entire performance have surfaced, offering fans the opportunity to experience the unique Foo Fighters and LA Phil collaboration, including the rare appearances of “A320,” “I Should Have Known,” “Razor” and “Home.” Watch the rarities and other highlights below:
