Eggy and Real Estate closed out their Hell Froze Over co-headline run on Saturday night with a concert at the State Theatre in Portland, Maine. The show began just hours after news of Bob Weir's death was announced and Eggy ended the night by covering a pair of Grateful Dead songs associated with Weir, including a finale performed with Real Estate’s Alex Bleeker and James Richardson.

Real Estate opened the last show of the four-night run with an 18-song set. The Ridgewood, New Jersey-birthed band focused heavily on their most recent album, 2024’s Daniel. Several cuts from 2017’s In Mind, 2014’s Atlas and 2011’s Days also made the setlist. Additionally, the quintet worked in The Main Thing gem “Paper Cup” and B-side “Pink Sky.”

Eggy ended the concert and tour with a two-hour performance. The Connecticut-based foursome lit into “Silver Steed (My Blue)” to get the set underway and then linked an unfinished “Burritos El Chavo 2” with a “Shallow Rivers” featuring “Observatory Crest” quotes. A standalone “Come Up Slow” followed before the band jammed “Breaking The Horse” into “Rampage.”

The quartet — guitarist Jake Brownstein, keyboardist Dani Battat, drummer Alex Bailey and bassist Mike Goodman — moved forward with an exploratory cover of the Bob Weir/John Perry Barlow co-write “Cassidy.” Brownstein channeled Weir on vocals while Battat sang high harmony on Eggy’s first cover of the song since September.

The stage was bathed in the Grateful Dead color scheme of red, white and blue (see photo above) before Eggy returned for the encore. Dani Battat then addressed the crowd, saying:

There’s a strange dichotomy that happens when you toe the line between our world in which we exist in here together in our physical forms and the world that’s sometimes just outside our reach. There’s a way that we can embody the feeling of things that are just out of our reach.

As many of you know, we lost a really great legend today. Someone without whom we wouldn’t be doing what we’re doing on stage and it was evident that many of our friends in Real Estate feel the same way. In the spirit of the great tradition that the late, great Bob Weir carried the torch for many, many, many years, we would like to welcome our friends Alex and James from Real Estate to come together in a time of what may seem like separation.

Eggy welcomed Real Estate’s Alex Bleeker on acoustic guitar and James Richardson on electric for the evening’s raucous and fitting “One More Saturday Night” finale. The six musicians took the Weir-written Grateful Dead staple deep with a jam mixing elements of blues, rock and psychedelia. Battat handled lead vocal duties.
