Steve Kimock, Lebo (Dan Lebowitz), Jason Crosby, Jay Lane, Pete Sears, Kanika Moore and Dave Ellis performed an all-star tribute to Grateful Dead co-founder Bob Weir on the Main Stage at the Oregon Country Fair in Veneta, Oregon on Sunday. Weir died in January at age 78.

The connection between the Grateful Dead and Oregon Country Fair began in earnest on August 27, 1972, when the band performed at the Old Renaissance Fairgrounds at an event billed as a “Pot-Luck Picnic,” which was a fundraiser for the nearby Springfield Creamery. Chuck Kesey, brother of fellow Merry Prankster and Grateful Dead associate, acclaimed author Ken Kesey, owned the Springfield Creamery, which produced Nancy’s Yogurt among its offerings.

In 1982, the Grateful Dead returned to the Oregon Country Fair, with the performance helping organizers purchase the land where the event remains held each year. Sunday’s Weir tribute was part of the 57th installment that featured artists performing across 17 stages.

The two-set tribute, billed as the “OCF All-Star Celebration of Bob Weir,” saw Kimock and Lebo on guitar, Crosby on keyboards, Lane on drums, Sears on bass, Ellis on saxophone and Moore providing vocals. The two sets presented songs associated with Weir from his time with the Grateful Dead. The setlist also pulled from Weir’s band RatDog’s repertoire and included a take on “Only A River” from Weir’s 2016 solo album, Blue Mountain.

Alex Koford came on to add vocals to “The Music Never Stopped” at the end of set one. Guests in the second set included Jordan Feinstein on keyboards for “Samson and Delilah,” “Sugar Magnolia” and “Not Fade Away,” with Katie Skene also providing additional vocals on “Sugar Magnolia” and “Not Fade Away.”

The entire “OCF All-Star Celebration of Bob Weir” can be viewed (starting at 5:13:26) via the livestream replay below:
