Eddie Vedder Makes Surprise Appearance With Judd Apatow At Bonnaroo
By Andy Kahn Jun 12, 2016 • 7:38 am PDT
Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder continues to make surprise appearances in Tennessee. Ahead of last night’s headlining performance with his band at Bonnaroo, Vedder showed up unannounced during comedian/producer Judd Apatow’s showcase at the festival’s Comedy Theatre.
Honoring Apatow’s late friend Garry Shandling, Vedder played acoustic guitar and sang a song he wrote about the funny man who passed away in March that incorporated Apatow interjecting Shandling’s jokes. Apatow explained Vedder sent him a video of the song and not long before his appearance learned of Eddie’s intentions to play it together as an impromptu duet.
The touching and funny tribute to Shandling was captured by jon wittmayer, view it here:
Later on Saturday evening, Pearl Jam’s headlining set featured Vedder leading the band through a number of their well-known originals mixed with a selection of choice covers such as Joe Strummer’s “Arms Aloft,” Pink Floyd’s “Comfortably Numb” and Neil Young’s “Rockin’ In The Free World.” Pearl Jam returns to the stage to headline The Ride festival in Telluride, Colorado on July 9.
