Jack White Guests With Pearl Jam At Third Man Records

By Scott Bernstein Jun 9, 2016 7:52 pm PDT

2016 has been about as quiet a year as possible for rock icon Jack White, but even he couldn’t pass on the opportunity to jam with Pearl Jam when the Seattle rockers came to his Third Man Records complex in Nashville on Thursday. Pearl Jam performed for about an hour in front of a very small crowd of dedicated fans at Third Man Records’ performance space tonight and White sat-in for a song.

The band distributed tickets in the most Pearl Jam of ways by giving members of its fan club ducats to the intimate performance under the guise of selling Bonnaroo posters at Nashville record store Grimeys earlier on Thursday. Twenty-five fan club members who responded to a tweet advising them posters would be available at Grimeys as well as “a special bonus” were given a pair of tickets to the Pearl Jam show at Third Man.

Eddie Vedder & Co. wound up splitting songs between a main set and three-song encore. The set was laid down by Pearl Jam in Third Man Records’ Blue Room for a live direct-to-acetate recording that hopefully will see release sooner rather than later. Pearl Jam’s main set included Lightning Bolt tracks “Pendulum” and “Mind Your Manners” before moving on to Riot Act’s “1/2 Full.” The main set then ended with “Life Wasted” and “Deep.”

When Pearl Jam returned for the encore Jack White joined them on guitar. White sat-in on rarity “Of The Earth” which the Seattle rockers debuted in 2010 and have only played a total of 11 times. The memorable performance came to an end with “Hard To Imagine” and “Let Me Sleep.” Pearl Jam now heads to Bonnaroo, where they will headline on Saturday night.
