Eddie Vedder Debuts Cover Of ‘Wildflowers’ By Tom Petty During Solo Run In Brazil

Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder stuck around after the band’s brief South American Tour to play three solo shows at Citibank Hall in São Paulo, Brazil this past Wednesday – Friday. One of the highlights of the run came during the first show, when Vedder unveiled a cover of Tom Petty’s “Wildflowers.”

Eddie’s version of the title track from Petty’s 1994 solo album came just weeks after Vedder’s stirring performance of “Room At The Top” at this year’s Academy Awards ceremony. “Wildflowers” was one of dozens of covers played by Eddie Vedder over the course of the run. Other selections included Warren Zevon’s “Keep Me In Your Heart,” “Bad” by U2, The Clash’s “Should I Stay Or Should I Go,” “Picture In A Frame” by Tom Waits, Little Steven’s “I Am A Patriot” and “After Hours” by The Velvet Underground. The performer also honored Tom Petty with a rendition of “I Won’t Back Down” during the second night in São Paulo.

Pearl Jam’s repertoire was represented by multiple songs each night. On Friday night, Eddie was joined by vocalist Sergio Vedder of Brazilian Pearl Jam tribute act Blaymorphed as the pair of Vedders dueted on “Black” towards the end of the show. Additionally, Eddie Vedder collaborated with Glen Hansard on a handful of tunes at each of the three performances.
