The life and memory of late Grateful Dead vocalist will be celebrated at a pair of tribute concerts in August. Donna Jean’s Heart Of Gold Band mates Steve Kimock and Greg Anton recruited friends and family members to join them in participating in the shows to be held on August 22 and 23 at the Mystic Theatre in Petaluma, California.

Donna Jean Godchaux died at age 78 last November. The Florence, Alabama native and her late husband, Keith Godchaux were members of the Grateful Dead between 1971 and 1979.

Keith and Donna formed the Heart Of Gold Band in 1980 with Kimock and Anton among its founding members. In 1980, Keith Godchaux’s tragic death brought an untimely end to the outfit. Steve Kimock and Greg Anton carried the flag forward by creating Zero, a band that celebrated its 45th anniversary last fall.

The lineup for “A Celebration of the Life and Music of Donna Jean Godchaux Mackay” features Donna’s children Zion Rock Godchaux and Kinsman Mackay along with her second husband David Mackay and Keith’s brother Brian Godchaux. Maria Muldaur, Mookie Siegel, Wally Ingram and Frank Goodman will also perform with the Heart Of Gold Band. Special guests are expected.

Pre-sale tickets can be purchased using the code HEARTOFGOLD starting on Wednesday, May 20 at 10 a.m. PT. General on-sales follow on Thursday, May 21. A portion of proceeds from ticket sales will benefit Alive Hospice and Camp Winnarainbow.
